18th Boy Scout National Jamboree

Since 1937, every four years, the Boy Scouts in America holds their National Jamboree.  More than 654,000 Scouts and leaders have shared the jamboree experience and hiked the trails, paths, and roadways at 16 national Scout jamborees. Now, a little more than 100 years after Scouting reached the United States, it’s your turn to celebrate! This is a chance for 35,000 Scouts and their leaders to spend a 10 days camping together and enjoying fun activities, making new friends, enjoying huge shows and experiencing the Brotherhood of Scouting. The 18th National Scout Jamboree will be held at Summit Bechtel Reserve at the New River Gorge, West Virginia, from July 15 to July 24, 2013.  43,000 participants - 35,400 Scouts, Venturers and leaders in 760 troops and crews, plus some 6,600 staff members. The Jamboree is a "must-do" event for every Scout!

The Jamboree is Scouting at its Best. The Jamboree is an opportunity to share Scouting with Scouts from around the United States and from other countries as well.

The Jamboree is also a place to have fun. Some of the fantastic things to look forward to at this new venue include amazing adventure facilities, utilizing some of the natural assets of the New River Gorge – rock-climbing on natural rock faces, white water rafting, and so much more. You won’t want to miss out on this opportunity! There are action activities like bicycle motocross, rappelling, a challenge course, trap shooting, biathlon, buckskin games, pioneering, air rifle shooting, and archery for those scouts who attend. Additional activities will be provided in the Outback Centers where there will be boating, canoeing, scuba diving, snorkeling, kayaking, and fishing. Volunteers are also needed in jamboree exhibit and display areas including the Merit Badge Midway, Arts and Sciences Fair, Brownsea Island Camp, K2BSA Amateur Radio Station, disability awareness trail, and daily stage shows.
